Euroshield vs. Asphalt: The Truth Behind Roofing Shingle Warranties

September 5, 2023

You’ve heard it before—your roof is one of the biggest investments you’ll make for your home. For homeowners, choosing the right roofing shingle often comes down to trust, longevity, and peace of mind. While some manufacturers promise longevity, a.k.a. “lifetime warranty,” the fine print usually says otherwise. But not with Euroshield. Not only have they been protecting your home and conserving the planet for 24 years straight, but their standard warranty is among the industry’s best. So let’s break it down.

How Good Is Your Roofing Shingle Warranty?

Asphalt shingles are the most common type of roofing shingle installed on homes in the U.S. and Canada. They come in a variety of styles, colors, and protection. The stronger the shingle, the higher the cost, though. And not all of their warranties are equal. Most shingles come with a standard or “lifetime limited” warranty. In some cases, you have to pay more for long-term protection. Below is a breakdown of the top four roofing shingle manufacturers and the standard warranty best-selling shingle.

1.GAF- Timberline HDZ Shingle - standard warranty includes:

Why is Class 4 Impact Rating Important?

Homeowners across North America deal with strong or severe storms, many of which produce hail. Hailstones can crack, dent, split, or break shingles. Most hailstones average between 1 inch and 1.75 inches. But there have been storms in Canada and the U.S. (especially in the so-called Hail Alley) where hailstones have been 4.5 inches or the size of softballs. And these severe storms and large hailstones could become more common as we deal with climate change, according to a recent article by the BBC.

A
Class 4 impact rating is the highest available rating for roof shingles. It means the shingles have been tested to withstand the impact of a 2-inch steel ball dropped from 20 feet without cracking or splitting. In regions with severe hailstorms or heavy storms, Class 4 shingles are an absolute must to guard against damage. And none of the shingles listed above, the top-selling shingles for each company, have a Class 4 Impact rating. You have to purchase higher-priced shingles for that type of protection.
